Rough Idle and Stalling

After some additional troubleshooting I have decided to start a separate thread concerning my problem. To back up. My Prowler got real hot about a month ago after a blown fuse on the cooling fan. Still ran and no problem. After washing it and putting it up for two weeks I noticed it started to stall after warming up some. To date I have drained the tank and put fresh gas in, cleaned out the gas tank vent tube as well as the fuel line. The problem got slightly better but still was stalling. I noticed that when I turn the prowler off a crackling sound is coming from the ISC valve. I unplugged the connector going to the valve and no more sound. I decided to take the ISC valve off and found dirt inside. Since then I cleaned out the dirt and cleaned the connector. Problem seemed to be fixed as far as the idle but not the crackling. Before putting the bike back together I decided to rinse down everything with low pressure. After finishing the wash job I started it up and it stalled a couple of minutes later. I pulled the ISC valve off again cleaned it and put it back. Seemed to idle again but again crackled when turning off the ignition. On order is the O ring for the ISC valve as it seemed a little loose. Any other recommendations?

Air leak on the ISC Valve would cause erratic idle issues. Also check the other O-rings on the throttle body. For what little they run replacement should be a no brainer! LOL

I ordered all of them today. I think when my Prowler got hot from the fan failing the heat warped the O-rings. Not sure if that is possible but it seems reasonable to me. I'll give you an update once installed.

Hey Fairmont, I replaced the o-ring on the isc valve and it seems to idle better and no stalling. However, it still makes a crackling sound from the isc when turning off the bike. T verify no problems with the o-ring I started the Prowler and sprayed electrical cleaner on the outside of the electrical connections of the throttle body. No problems until I sprayed it on the isc and it stalled. I didn't spray the connector but the actual body of the isc valve. Turned off the ignition after it stalled and turned then cranked it right back up. Idled fine, sprayed cleaner back on it and it stalled. Could the isc be bad, maybe cracked? I hate to replace that expensive part but it seems logical. What's your thoughts?

We got sidetracked! LOL Sorry Bout That! Crackling like electrical snap? Or engine type backfire? Spray carb cleaner on the valve while running, see if the rpm raise's. If so you have a leak in the valve. That is an expensive little devil! The connector on mine is FUBAR'ed, and I'm still looking for a pigtail to repair it! I jury rigged it for now!

Yes, crackling like electrical but from within the ISC valve. If I unplug it, it stops. Strange. I sprayed electrical cleaner on the valve and it died so I assume the valve is bad. I'll try the carb cleaner as you said but I suspect it will increase the rpm's. Do you think when the bike overheated that it may have put a crack in it? Trying to figure out how they go bad to prevent future problems. This one only has about 260 miles on it. I believe I saw a pigtail adapter on country cat for the isc valve. Not sure which bike it was for though.

Heat will do strange things to parts! I'd check out Ebay, and other sites for the ISC valve, I looked at Babbitts and they have it listed at 128.00 dollars! Also contacted Country Cat regarding the pigtail!

This is exactly why I still like the carb'd models. A lot less to mess with and "old school" mechanics can work on them.

'09 650XT H1, 72" Eagle Plow, Warn 3500 Winch. Bestop soft cab, soft top, wind buster & cargo cover. Dyna FX CDI box, UNI filters, A/C V-bag and front console, EPI 2" lift kit, Highlifter springs, Scat ProCar suspension seats with heated covers. SteerLite bushings. 28x10 Raceline Bruisers on Vision 158 14X8 rims, on all 4 corners. Cowling heat vents w/fan. Factory heat and defrost. RD Custom's alternator kit. XTZ hood scoop, Monster shock covers, turn signals... for now.

Pro's, and Con's for sure! Carbs do a great job! EFI is difficult to work on with all the different sensors related to them. Not all that much difference in performance.

Look at the Power Sports Nation store, they have a used valve for your machine, 29.95!
