Default Slop in steering wheel

How much slop should be expected in the steering linkage? I seem to have quite a bit of slop. Is there a way to tighten it up

Hey dave there is a nut behind the steering wheel cover that you can snug up a bit.If you look in between the steering column or shaft you will see a wave washer or shim. You can tighten the nut up some without making it steer to stiff.Behind the steering wheel there are torque screws that you can take out to remove steering wheel cover to access the nut i am talking about.

Chris,

That nut just holds the wheel to a splined shaft. The steering wheel itself has no slop on the shaft since it is held on rigidly by splines. The problem must lie further down the line. I'll do some exploring.

Yep, that's what I have too, and I agree, it reminds me of my old VW bus.

Not in a bus but i did have Long rod 2332 turbo with laughing gas in a sand sprite 6 that weighed 900 lbs.Not much time for play in the steering on that one.
