I have a 09 XT 700 and I can’t get it into reverse. The shifter goes into “R” but it’s actually in “N” I looked at the linkage in it and saw the arm was bent and tried striating it out and noticed the tack weld was broke. Has any one else had a similar problem and if so what did you do?
If it were me I would put it in reverse by using the linkage. Then reweld the broken welds. I mean it has to be in reverse so that you are sure it is in reverse. And the dash needs to indicate that as well. Then adjust or fine tune as needed.
Can you post a pic of the weld that broke? I don't know if you need the washers. The weld was probably not the problem. The problem was probably the guy at the factory that laid the weld down. Probably not enough penetration or too much undercut?
