head lights dim for an instant

Headlights dim for an instant while traveling. they do not go out but dim slightly for about 2-3 seconds then return to normal. Engine speed does not matter as it happen at slow speeds and high speeds. Checked all connections and they are tight. the lights do not go out but dim slightly like changing from hi to low beam but it does not matter whether high or low beam is on. Any ideas??

Mine does that when the fan kicks on, but I believe it dims for a longer period of time.

With the limited electrical capacity, the cooling fan drops the voltage to 12 or less on start up. Still wonder why AC designed such a small system!

Good idea. As soon as I get back home I will check to see if indeed the fan is momentarily kicking on and dimming the lights. I still have the oem battery which does not appear to be too strong either.

Carp1, what machine do you have? I have an 09 700XTX, and the original battery was rated at 355CCA, newer Prowlers have a 400CCA battery, but still rather small. People have added secondary batteries, or increased the battery size. Damn kids can't leave anything alone! LOL

DE3, how are the electrics on your sport? Same or better? When I'm above 15 MPH, my generator kicks in! Not a bad investment! Volts stay at or above 14 with everything running!

Hasn't seemed to bother it yet, I stay away from deep water! What water I run into on the trails is present in the area where the alternator is, but I've never noticed any problems. Alternator shows signs of water hitting it, but no more that what would be under the hood of a car/truck! The area I mounted it is about 12-16 inches above the ground, and is pretty well protected. I have a alternator field switch that I can turn the alternator off if it does short out, this also keeps the battery from discharging if it sits for a long time.
