No 4wd (repaired)

Well this pile just cannot seem to STOP giving me the finger!

Finally get enough snow to actually use the new V-Plow we bought last year and no 4wd. Flipped switch, nothing up front. Pulled the switch and it was not reading the correct resistance across the pins so my wife made some calls, found a replacement switch, and took a ride to make sure I had the switch when I made it home from work.

Installed the new switch, turned the key, pushed 4wd, dash displays 4wd, no noise from up front, @#$%@#$%@# Soo beyond pissed with this pile right now. Soo much crap needs to be removed to get to the front diff since the plow mount blocks the front from flipping forward.

So far,
New airbox
Fresh engine rebuild
New rear u-joints
New 4wd switch
New King shocks (because the "Heavy duty" Prowler still comes with cheap shocks up front that cannot even handle the Pressure of the springs being turned up)

Positive side, only the front diff, rear diff, 4wd actuator, and brakes left to replace on this thing. LOL

Oh and all the fuses by the Battery box were good.

Soo frustrated right now but definitely have learned I will NEVER buy another used UTV or ATV again! Not a lot of owners take care of their rides anywhere near as well as the rest of you do. Worst part is the Prowler has spent more time parked in the garage safe since we brought it home than any of our vehicles in the last 5 years! LOL Never even made it out for more than the weekly run to the town recycling/dump 1mi away round trip. LOL

Thanks for letting me vent!

Update: Was a bad 4wd Actuator due to failed front seal allowing water into the system.

LOL How do Maxiclips/Maxxigrabbers work for reading voltage.

The actuators can get water in them and not work. Mine was full of ice once Stills works now however.

First use a tester and look for 12v at the plug going to the actuator. Before you pull it you, lets rule out electrical

Second pull the actuator off the diff. No need to pull the diff. The torq bolt on the back side is hard to see and is a pain. Take the cover off and carefully pry the lid open.

I have pulled the actuator 3-4 times on my quads and cleaned them and got them to work again. I seal up with silicone before I reinstall.

Plug it in before you reinstall and flip the 4x4 switch, it should make noise. Good luck

Thanks Firecat! I will be tearing into it this weekend. Glad to hear I may be able to just clean it up and get it working!

Posted in a moment of frustration instead of holding off a little while.

Wires tested good to the Actuator.

LOL You know this would be a lot easier if I could pull the skid plate! Unfortunately, the front mount for the V-Plow is large and a crap load of bolts!

Actuator is out though and on my desk.

The rear bolt is going to be a PITA to get back in since I cannot remove the skid plate! LOL

I leave my plow mount on year round! I cut the skid plate so I can remove it without touching the plow mount.

I too plan to leave the Main plow mount on year round!

I replaced the factory plastic skid plate with the Arctic Cat Anodized aluminum skid plates right after we brought it home when I saw them on sale for $199.99. Grabbed the matching front and rear A-Arms at the same time. I definitely do not have the tools to cut into this nice Aluminum plate nicely and make sections removable. Front section goes all the way back till the frame widens out for the cab where it mates up with the center section.

Hope to tear into the actuator tomorrow. *Crosses Fingers*

I cut aluminum with a skil saw equipped with a carbon tipped blade. It does a great job, and does not destroy the blade. Just a thought! LOL

Efff! Well looks like the front seal failed and the motor, has corrosion. Back of the board also has corrosion around multiple transistors as well as up the capacitor.

Upon looking at the front seal, I found out it had completely broke of after after the rubber rib section.

At this point, I think I'm just going to hold off and call the dealer tomorrow to see if they have a replacement in stock. Rather put a new one back in due to the PITA nature I'll have getting it back in. Rather not have it fail on me in time of need again.
