Problems with my winch

My winch doesn't work ..what is some things that I can do to check what is wrong with it? Is there a wire that goes straight to the battery form the winch?

Most of todays winches run from the battery to a contactor and then from the contactor to the in/out switch and the winch. There is also a wire that runs to an ignition source most likely. The contactor has a ground(black) and a positive (red) that would go to your battery. The cables that run to the winch are usually blue and yellow. My guess is a bad contactor. You can test this by isolating the contactor and running straight to battery with the winch to see if it functions.

Follow this link for a diagram. Give it a minute to load because it's a pdf file. See page 8 for a picture.

I just replaced the contactor in mine because the out function of the switch worked but the in function would blow my ignition fuse. If you need the Arctic Cat / Warn contactor you can get this from Chris at EAAC 1.800.293.1586.

I got my winch to run ,,the problem was me.. when I installed the wires for my charger to the battery that I leave hooked up all the time ,, I missed putting the hot lead to the winch back on..

Thanks flying121 for the tips on chasing out the wiring ,, it brought me right to the problem.. nice to find it wasn't a part repair ..anyone else do any cussing when hooking these wires back up the battery post ? I finally after 1/2 hour of trying to screw the screw into the nut ,,just found a longer bolt ,,as the younger ones say ,,Dah? why didn't I do that in the first place .. LOL ,,,,ain't it fun to play with our artic cats ?

Wondering how full you guys fill the winch drum wiyh cable? It seems that every time I have to pull at an angle the cable climbs out of drum and wedges against housing.Would putting shorter cable on prevent this from happening?
