bad reg electric question

I replaced the bad voltage regulator with a used one off a 2006 model and its charging good. 15.1 volts revved up. The problem now is the tach quit working. I'm thinking it runs off the same plug and might have something to do with the oil leaking in there. Which leads me to my question, when I clean the contacts good should I pack the plug with dialectric grease? Will it help make contact or is it unnecessary in a weather proof plug?

This is a question that sandchris will be able to answer. He has many years in the electrical, audio, and wiring business. I would say that it couldn't hurt using the grease but let's see what sandchris says. I am curious myself.

Well I went ahead and put a dab of grease inside each pin hole after cleaning them but still no tach. I guess I might order a new wiring harness, maybe the bad regulator ruined something else?
