Aircraft Intercom?

I can get two headsets and mic for $55, intercom around $74. Any reason I this is a bad idea? Don't need music or car to car chat, just using for me and passenger. Will this work? flyin121 any opinions? trying to get around the 600+ for rugged which I know is apple to oranges of what im talking about. thanks

Sorry it took so long to see this post. I have not been on as much as I normally am.

As far as I know most of the aviation specific intercom systems are set up to run on 12-28 vdc. The small aircraft two seat style intercoms usually have a very low current consumption of around 18 to 20 ma. I believe you are safe to use them. I would always check that they are properly fused before running any after market electrical equipment. I would also call Rugged and speak to them on this matter because they actually manufacture both aviation and automotive intercoms and headsets. It seems as though there are better deals on the aviation intercoms so why not. Please let us know what Rugged says and which route you decided to go. Good luck to you.

Thanks for all the input

well my cheap hookup on the headphones fell through so will have to keep this in mind down the road. I think this will be a cheap solution for what im using it for, mainly so I don't have to yell at the person next to me. The particular intercom I was looking at has a cig lighter or 9v battery for power. With it being portable I might be able to use it on my buddies airboat also.

Here is a setup I met bid on, starting bid is around what I think I should be able to find one at.

Two David Clark Headsets 10 20 10 60 and Flightcom Intercom Iigx | eBay

I have owned many David Clark headsets throughout my aviation career and can say that they are top notch. The quality is hard to beat. That set for $200 is a sweet deal for sure.

might see how far this goes before I order;

Flightcom 2 Channel Pilot Intercom | eBay
These usually go for 250+ so hopefully with one bad headset will keep it down.
