Tip - xtz 1000 water pump install

I thought I would post a tip that would have saved me about two hours worth of headache while installing my water pump. The service manual says do not force water pump in or severe motor damage can occur. You have to line up the little spindle into the slot, but you can't see if it's lined up. I was terrified because it wouldn't just slide in. It kept hitting before it would go flush. After about two hours of adjusting the spindle to try and get it to slide in I noticed that when it was lined up like I thought it should be it would go in a little farther that if it wasn't lined up at all. There was about a two or three millimeter difference. I decided at that point it was in and I used the bolt's to get it the rest of the way in. I guess there is an extra lip for a snug fit that you need to get it past. It kind of popped into place which also terrified me because I thought I had caused the severe engine damage, but it started right up with no problems. Thankfully. There was also a problem with over heating after install which I posted about, I just need to get the air out of the lines.

there was a recall on early XTZ's water pumps .. wonder if you had one of those ones also

name is Gary or hey you if ya forget

2009 Prowler XTZ , couple things added here and there
'83 CJ7 / SBC + whole lot added here and there
'01 Dodge / Cummins / Dually, a ton of stuff added here and there

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE NEWBIES ...
1. Bring in a good load of firewood for the pit
2. start the morning coffee , strong but not burnt / boiled down , IMPORTANT start it early as many of us old farts get up early !!
3. sit a spell and swap some lies with the best of us

I thought it was for the 09's only but I should probably call the dealer and check.
