What was the thought process here

What was the thinking on leaving the firewall open and then leaving the console open as well allowing all the mud and crap to be trapped underneath?

Does the engine cover have an opening to allow air flow to the engine? If not can't see where it would help.

The back side isn't open so no airflow going back towards the engine. The only benefit that I can see is working on the front diff, steering, and u-joints.

All the mud just gets trapped under there

I made a shield to go in the front to stop most of it. The bolts are just there while I sanded for a nice fit.
