Another broken tie rod... this time include the cv also!!

Well I had a great dune trip over new years except for the very last ride on Saturday afternoon. I came off of a razonback and hit the bottom of the dune pretty hard and bent the hell out of the left side tie rod. This time it also took out the outer cv too. luckly I learned my leason last time and had a spare tie rod back at camp. I changed it out and pulled the axle out of the diff and limped it back to camp. I called the dealer yesterday and they said that you cant just buy a new cv, you have to buy the complete axle for $230!!!
Chris it was good to meet you out there this weekend too!

I had the same problem except I didnt break a CV so I build some with some beefy heims and misalignment spacers. So far so good after 2 hard dunes trips I think the rack would snap before these tie rods.. Cost about $200 to do and well worth it.. Now something else rattles in the front end everytime I hit a bump.. Always something new Thats insane how much those axles cost

I'd pm eaac to see if he can help you. I would be glad to help you with and axle, but freight wouldn't save you much. But Chris (eaac) is alot closer so maybe he can help.

Brandon, check your mounting bracket for rack, ispecially if you have replaced your tie rods. The bracket is cheezy, thin. I broke mine and had to cut it off and fab a new one.You can check it by turning wheel to stop and looking at rack, you can actually see it flexing. It will eventually flex and bend. A big mess when your in a bad spot.

Ya you got that right!! It was the last planned dune ride of the trip though so at least I got a few good rides in before it broke.

That is my friend sitting against the tire while we were waiting for the new tie rod to be delivered. We had about an hour wait while someone went back to the trailer to get the part and tools.

I plan on upgrading the tie rods before my next trip. I have been to the dunes 3 times with the prowler and have bent a tie rod on 2 of the trips!!!
