Well, welcome to my world. Thought I was the only one to have this happen to them. I'll see if I can get my pics put back up, it's hanging in the garage on my 'wall of carnage'. Yep, mine granaded to beat all hell!!!! I couldnt believe it. I've broke some shit before, this was impressive. My 06 650 had just over 2200 miles, I think. Gimme a few and I'll get you the new and improved part number. Make sure you get this one, much stouter than the older one. Mine did it not too long ago, I'll check and see if I can find the post. I also have pics of the diff between the new and old one together. It's not that hard to change, just the big 'baJesus' nut to take off was the only pain in the ass. I'll post back with the new part number for ya.

i have seen a few of them come apart, butthey were all being over-rev'd. when the primary clutch is spinning at 8,000RPMs and the belt is at the top of the primary, and the base of the secondary, the secondary clutch is spinning 3.2 times for every revoloution of the primary. so you do the math, the secondary is spinning 25,000+RPMs i have seen folks with built motors and raised rev limiters overspin the secondary clutches, and grenade them. about 33,000RPMs is all the secondary will take before it explodes. which is usually around 9,500RPMs on the motor.

BUT!! a secondary can explode when your belt comes off or breaks and lodges itself between the secondary sheaves and the belt housing at high speeds. a belt can snap when strtched to its limits (usually high revs) and when the belt snaps it instantly falls to the bottom of the clutch housing and the secondary is still spinning and when the belt gets between the sheaves and the housing the clutch will grenade itself.

i'd say you had one of those two things happen

ok, I found the links I had posted before, lemme see if I can attach them. (I am technologically challenged, btw)., not sure if this is gonna come out right, but this has the part number info, and
here are the pics with the diff between the two. The second and fourth pics are obviously of the new one.
Airdam, I found that a rivet had failed on mine. That's what appeared to happen anyway. I dont have a cdi box to eliminate the rev limiter, although that's entirely possible that the high revs got to it. I personally believe it was a flaw in the design.
let me know if you need anything, be glad to help. Oh, by the way, I found a wide range of prices on that, so shop around....

i don't have a cdi or any thing just intake. i was running about 5,500 rpms and all i heard was a loud snap, pop sound and rear wheels locked up. i have a clutch kit from speed werx like i said. it pretty much has the stiffest spring on the secondary and 1 gram heaver weights, possible the belt came a part but it is about 100 miles old from ac and well in-tack when i ripped it out. does the 07 helix work any better for clutching? i was very unhappy with speed werx setups. i must have changed it 2-3 different set ups before it was ok i still thing stock was better thanks for the help

10-4 on the stock setup being better than the speedwerks. I had one of there clutches in my 06 xt and it was crap. never did get it real good, and i changed springs , weights, many times according to there recomendations.
