I may be in the same boat .. won't know until next week .
I dropped mine of where it has been serviced since new [back in Spokane, Wa.] as I'm traveling again. so dropped it off there so when we get back from the Olympic National Park in extreme north western Wa. State I can pick it up and head down to a friends place about 2 hrs south of Spokane Wa .. anyway they called me Saturday afternoon and said the full service was done and it's still not running worth a crap and needed to go into the head and maybe further .... we'll see what's up.

name is Gary or hey you if ya forget

2009 Prowler XTZ , couple things added here and there
'83 CJ7 / SBC + whole lot added here and there
'01 Dodge / Cummins / Dually, a ton of stuff added here and there

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE NEWBIES ...
1. Bring in a good load of firewood for the pit
2. start the morning coffee , strong but not burnt / boiled down , IMPORTANT start it early as many of us old farts get up early !!
3. sit a spell and swap some lies with the best of us

Hope it is just confined to the head! Rebuilding these things is pretty easy, but the cost of parts is terrible! Makes a new engine package very attractive.

I think I would tear it down and see what the problem is,2009 was a bad year for the H-2 Motor it was the Gen 1 motor.......Transmissions were the worst problem.how many miles on it......

2015 A/C Sport,With a few add ons..........

I've yet to find anyone selling shortblocks for the 1000, transmission is part of the lower end on these. Any metal would be from the trans. I'd check the cam area on both heads to see if they are showing signs of wear, and this is easy to do, just remove the rocker arm covers, no gasket, just use RTV silicone to put them back on. If it is the trans, you will have to pull the motor, and then split the case.

Checked on a new engine price at the "Arctic Cat Store", they listed a 1000 motor at 5,600.00 and change. Babbitts and other would discount this price, but then you have shipping. Arctic Cat Store delivers to approved dealers at no charge, and then you pick up. No great answer anyway you cut it!

I looked at a 700 motor and you could get one for around 2,300.00, now they want 3200.00. That is the reason I've been picking up parts when I find them! The only thing I lack now is a crankshaft assembly to complete an entire motor.

I just read about this company on another Prowler site https://www.nflowmotorsports.com/products/service/ Couldn't hurt to ask them for a quote on the 1000.

They posted a quote to rebuild a 650:
we can completely remanufacture/rebuild the Arctic Cat Prowler 650 H1 for $2,800 with core exchange. This includes Free Shipping both ways in the lower 48 states. Our reman process involves a complete tear down of the engine, washing and blasting, replacement of worn and damaged parts, in house CNC machine work, re-assembly by our skilled techs, final inspecting/testing, and shipping back to your door. The engine will come back looking and running like new. All you have to do is strap your engine to a pallet and we take care of the rest including arranging all shipping logistics. If you would rather a dealership take your engine out and put back in, we are happy to pick up/drop off the engine at the dealership. Just give us a call at 812-402-8282 to get the process started.
