steering stops

I have been going through front CV axles left n right since the 2" lift was installed ( snapped the left front "rhino" axle in under a 1/4 mile. I also noticed the tires will pivot quite a bit more on their own after the steering wheel has hit the stops. Has anyone installed steering stops on the spindles to keep them from doing this? If so, what is the max angle that you can set the stops at and still not be popping CV joints. I am betting someone has already figured this out so I don't want to re-invent the wheel if I don't have to... no pun intended LOL

I am going to ditch the 30" mudlites for 28" swamplites. I think a lil smaller tire will help me on the wear n tear on the poor prowler as well as get a lil top speed back.

Good question, and good idea! I don't really see any downside to steering stops. Somebody must have them for UTV's!

Just like everything else for our square tube machines... I have found them for many makes and models but the prowler is not one of them.

I think a couple 1/2" nuts welded into a bracket with a grade 8 bolt should be enough to make an effective stop and I can adjust it till I start to loose the warm n fuzzy feeling. I hate to give up any turn radius, but I will give it up if it means I can keep the damn CV's in for more than a 1/4 mile.

For what its worth. If you remember to be really easy on the wheel they last, but if you may have had a toddy or ten and your backing up the wood trailer in 4X4 they last about as long as a popcorn fart in a whirl wind..

I'll have to remember not to have a popcorn fart then LOL ... but I run stock size tires, assume they can be killed in stock size though, given the nut behind the wheel really gives it hell

don't think there is anything that hold up to really trying to break things as the wild ones do.

1. Bring in a good load of firewood for the pit
2. start the morning coffee , strong but not burnt / boiled down , IMPORTANT start it early as many of us old farts get up early !!
3. sit a spell and swap some lies with the best of us

Those 30's could be part of the problem, I haven't read about anyone else breaking cv's that easy. I had a 2" lift on my for a while running stock size tires, went through a lot of mud and never broke anything. I very seldom pull a trailer and when I had it wasn't much of a load.
