Tailgate Cables

I tried to install shorter cables on my tailgate, and as usual the Prowler decided not to help! The factory uses threaded inserts on the tailgate assembly, one side unbolted with no issue, but the other side spun the insert in the plastic. I decided to cut an access hole in the tailgate, and grab the insert with needle nose vise grips and unbolt it. I made diamond plate covers for the access holes, cut the ends off the cables, pushed them through the old bolt holes and secured the cable with a set screw clamp, and bolted a 2 hole strap over the cable on the side of the tailgate. Nothing is simple on older stuff!

Garage
I just cut my cables at the bed and I went to the local farm store and bought a cable thimble and sleeves to shorten mine. Not real pretty but it worked. Since I installed the recessed tail lights I had easy access to the nuts on the bed.
