You need to rent a spring compressor for McPhearson struts. I got one from my local Checker auto parts store. The compressors needs to mount on the outside on the spring.
they look like this http://www.ntxtools.com/network-tool.../ATD-7561.html

Korporate X 2 seat cage

Yep. I used two and it worked great. A vise is helpful too.

just chuck them SOB's up in the vise and use a spanner wrench , back off the preload nut and it will be free after about 10 turns .. didn't need a spring compressor of any type [would have been a lil easier but wd40 to clean the threads before and armstrong preload nut spanner and good to go LOL

BTW I used 350 lb springs and like the results

name is Gary or hey you if ya forget

2009 Prowler XTZ , couple things added here and there
'83 CJ7 / SBC + whole lot added here and there
'01 Dodge / Cummins / Dually, a ton of stuff added here and there

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE NEWBIES ...
1. Bring in a good load of firewood for the pit
2. start the morning coffee , strong but not burnt / boiled down , IMPORTANT start it early as many of us old farts get up early !!
3. sit a spell and swap some lies with the best of us

For the shocks that don't have threaded bodies the hose clamps work great. For the threaded body shocks the spanner wrench should be all you need.
