I have a 09 xtx with the turf saver rear end. I used to be able to control it pretty good with the throttle but it’s gotten to where it jerks no matter what I do. I’ve watched the videos on changing to the xt rear end and that was my plan for the future. Then I got to wondering if the rear end could be welded. Does anybody know if this is feasible?
I tried it but it didn’t work. I ended up getting the gear for the xt which isn’t a turf saver from Babbitt’s. Also had to get new axles because they are a different size. It was a fairly easy fix. Cost was $350 for parts.
The XT is 4.0 and the XTX is 3.5, The front and rear ratios have to match. Did you change the gears to the original? If they don't match the trans will go... KABOOM!
No. I just switched the rear gear and axles. I’ve had it out and rode in 4 wheel drive and no problems. I watched several videos on the swap and none of them mentioned that.
Numerous attempts on welding the rear have been attempted with mixed results. Changing to a locked rear is usually the best choice. Any 36 tooth ring gear from XT machines to the 2012 Prowler XTX's up will work.
The ring gear is the same size or teeth. (36) The difference between a 4.0 cat and a 3.6 geared cat is the pinion (9 teeth v 10)
