So what was the date again? Link?
May 11th - 14th
I'll chime in here.
I never in my life thought I would enjoy Rally On The Rocks. My business used to sponsor the National Rock Crawling Championships and I spent many hours watching these guys go up things that you couldn't go up on your hands and knees.
But on the day of the Arctic Cat sponsored trailride, Dean Bulloch, who was leading the ride, egged me into going with them on the ride to help out. Now, Dean is a former world champion rock crawler and an AC dealer. He and I knew each other from my sponsorship of the Nat Championships.
Next thing I knew, I was out on the trail with them. I confessed to Dean, "I know nothing about climbing rocks, if I ain't going fast, I'm not happy". Dean just grinned and told me he would teach me all I needed to know.
To make a very long story shorter, by the end of the day, I was climbing stuff that I never would've believed, and HAVING A BLAST DOING IT!!! On that very first day, I knew I would be back to Rally On The Rocks every year I could possibly manage. And I'm hooked to say the least..
Any of you that aren't sure you would enjoy it, trust me, there are trails for every sort and level, you will have fun.
Shawn is right, there were less than 30 Arctic Cats total at the event. But they made a decent showing on capabilities. The RZRs were having to fly up obstacles to get up them while ACs were crawling as they should. There was one AC that did flip, but Shawn could vouch, the guy was just on the throttle wayyyy to hard.
Guys, gals, Rally On The Rocks is a blast, if you are riding the fence on it, try it, you will be making plans to return before your first day is over. And it's quite cool to see UTV's own the town of Moab for several days.
I'm going to be throwing a BBQ either Thursday or Saturday nights. Anyone from the forum will be welcome.
Trails I'm riding are:
Wednesday - Steelbender
Thursday - Golden Spike/ Gold Bar Trails
Friday - doing a non ROTR private ride on Fins N Things and Hells Revenge. If anyone wants to go, pm me. You will be responsible for trailering to the trailhead and paying the park admittance fee.
Saturday - OPEN, will decide which trail to ride the night before...
I'm staying at the Spanish Trails Campground, just down the road from the Arena (ROTR Headquarters and ride start area)
Arctic Cat is planning on having a display at ROTR, I'm pushing them to have the Wildcat on display there. It's 50/50 right now. There is discussion of having my desert car on display during the late afternoons and evenings there. Jon Crowley's Teryx was in a bad accident today at the VORRA Race, so I'm not sure if he'll have it there, if not, that'll make my XTZ the biggest build there. Jon's Teryx and my XTZ are very similiar in build and options.
I have a new GoPro HD Wide Angle mounted on my car and will be filming lots of videos of the rides. I'll post them here when I return.
'HEY, BE THERE OR BE SQUARE"
