550XT questions

Hi all. First post here so bare with me. I utilized the search function a few times but can't find the answers I am after. New to the UTV market but like the looks of the AC 550. Don't know anyone that has one that I can ride or drive. Questions:

1. How far if you drive conservatively will a tank of gas get you?
2. How well does it fit in the back of a full size truck?
3. Any problems or years to stay away from?

Sure there will be a lot more questions but those are the ones off the top of my head. What I want it for mostly is hunting, just being able to take 2 track and over grown roads without worrying about scratching up my truck. There will be a little play involved but mostly I want reliability and enough power to make it up the hills and over rocks without to much fuss.

Thanks in advance!

Don't know what you have for a truck but it will be a tight squeeze as the machine in roughly 60" wide, and over 9' long. Also you are pushing 1200 lbs empty so suspension will be an issue.

Much better off putting it on a trailer, IMO.

It will fit in my truck with the tail gate down. 03 chevy duramax longbed 3/4t HD
The tires will not be on the gate but the gate can't go up.
You will want to build blocks for the front tires so the bumper does not hit the back glass.

A full tank will get you very far don't know exact milage my mom has the 550 and it does very well on fuel.

They are all efi and have great reliability.

It is a great choice for someone not wanting to hotrod.
They easily go 2x's farther than most 4wheelers.

Well considering the tank is twice the size of most wheelers.

Are you ramping up and over the wheel wells or just climbing over them?

Welcome 458win. Going from memory here but I think the tank is 8.6 gals. So at 20 miles per gallon that is 172 miles. Even at 15 miles per gallon that is 129 miles.
I have heard some pretty good things about the 550's. Guys really seem to like em.

Thanks for the advice! My truck is a 06 dodge 3500 long bed. The 1200lbs wont be a problem. Just fit. I am thinking I would get a trailer but would like the option to just truck it.

Next question is what options or aftermarket add ons would you go with? I like to leave things as stock as possible other then maybe new tires and rims maybe.

Welcome to the forum. I have heard some good things about the 550. Good power and torque for the money. Not sure how the power compares to the 650 or 700. My 2006 650 which is carbed runs about 130 miles to the tank, that is a machine that has a four seat cage and kids in the back most of the time. The EFI system seems to be really reliable and performs well. We have a few members that have this model, give it a few days and hopefully they will come on and give some feedback.

I just put it in 4wheel and diff lock and have no problem crawling over wheel wells.

Climbing out is another thing as the doors won't open.
