Thumbs up Derby Cycles has FAST shipping

I ordered a fuel pump from Derby Cycles Shelbyville, KY (502) 633-7100 at 9pm Friday night and got it this morning, now that's fast service. I've been having a power problem at top end speeds and riding with the engine cover off we saw a lot of air bubbles in the fuel line going into the carb and thought that may be the issue.

The new pump fixed the air bubbles, I have quicker response but still can't hit the rev limiter in high side, low side no problem. On a slight upgrade 35 mph is max. I've adjusted the valves, new plug, new fuel pump, added carb cleaner in the fuel tank (haven't run much through it). Everything is stock and I have 3,300 miles on it. No changes have been done to it since the last time it would top out at 48 mph against the limiter.

I also cleaned and oiled the air filter with No-Toil yesterday.

Well I hope I finally found my power problem, I was going to pull the carb and tear it down for a cleaning when I found a small crack in the boot between the carb and the engine. It was at the base of the hose connection that goes to the fuel pump, with a little pressure it split wide open. New parts from Derby ordered, anyone think this could be the solution?

You bet, a new boot and you should be good again.

Could be. That is where the vacuum is created to make the fuel pump function. If you have a leak there, that will cause you to lose vacuum and cause the fuel pump not to work properly.
