Skid Plates DIY

Info: I fabricated the side panels at home. The material is diamond plate 3/16" aluminum. You can use a skill saw with a carbon tipped blade to cut. I used a piece of 3/4" angle as a guide. I have cut 3/4 X 3" aluminum bar stock with my chop saw (carbon tipped blade, cutting slowly). Aluminum is very easy to work with, I found several sites on the internet for purchasing raw material. The kits that list skid plates are in the 5-6 hundred dollar range, raw material is roughly 140-200 for a 4X8 sheet of polished 3/16" diamond plate!

The main point is that you do not need specialty tools to fabricate, only time! Have a great day

Skid Plates

I got my aluminum out of a dairy plant that was being renovated! I did check on the "Metals Depot" web site, and pricing is up about 90-100 dollars per 4X8 sheet, so I'm back to looking at scrap yards!
