Front Axel

I purchased a 2009 XTZ Prolwer about a month ago. Took it out last week up Holy Cross City rd in colorado and broke the left front Axel. Wondering if this is a common breakage item. I was in a creek bed with good size rocks in it and had the Diff locked in.

it can be a problem on any of the different brands, from what i have read the cats seem to break a lot of axles, alot depends on your riding style any thing can be broke, depending on your riding style you might consider going with better aftermarket axles, rhino brand, slasher, ect.just remember if you install stronger axles then your weak point will be somewhere else.

Good tips de3. One big consideration is locking in your four wheel drive only when you absolutely need it. If you can get away with just using your four wheel without locking it in do it. locking it in puts a lot of stress on those front axels especially when your wheel is cut or you're steering around something. I've broken a front axel too and it was when I had it locked and the wheel was cut.

if your in big rocks and your diff is locked thats has to put parts in one heck of a bind.i agree with you dont lock both front wheels up if you dont need to.most of the time you can tell if your binding it up.

No prob, glad I could help.. something I picked up from experience.. the more I four wheel.. the less I depend on the locker... its just easier on parts that way

I'm not sure how many people have had their front differentials apart, but I have. I saw how the locker works which is basically just a small round sleeve with small teeth that slides over small teeth over the axle when you pull on the cable lever. Not very stout in my opinion. So I agree with the others, if you can go without, I would try and do that as much as possible in just 4WD until you actually need to engage the locker....

Glad to help, that's how I run mine now.. it will actually surprise you how little you will need lock once you get used to running in regular 4wd.
