What do I need to buy a winch?

Im in the process of pricing and watching for sales on a winch for the xtz. I will need one to go with the snow plow when I purchase that this fall.

Im not looking for info about winches, but rather what pieces do I need to buy to make a completed mount for it. I would like to stay away from the local stealership as much as possible so am going to be buying individually online. And will also be doing a mount within the frame, not on the front receiver.

Thanks in advance!!

Yea you don't want to do a hitch mount on the snow plow, someone will chime in and give you some advice on the winch,I know a lot of winches will fit your standard holes on your winch plate already on your prowler.

You can check this site for a winch and mount, some here say their not sure about the quality of the winch but I bought my plow from them and have been happy with it. You might get the mount here and the winch somewhere else, I think someone on the site tried one from Harbor Freight.

if your using the winch for your plow stay away from Harbor freight ones .. they burn up and cause you grief in lousy conditions to repair. .... on you winch end it takes just a short line to lift the plow over and over and over ... remove the long line and get a short line or two for plow season so the wear occurs on a cheep short line easily replaceable [on edit .. use synthetic here also]... also look at fabing up a line stand [a section with rollers, stood tall to get the direction of pull to lift the low laying plow]..

also if you can afford the difference in price get a 4000 or 4500 lb winch. [over kill but worth it as we always overload the things] ..

several friends have had great luck with this brand http://www.kfiproducts.com
low cost and great service life .

BTW buy/use synthetic rope for your winches .. way better line wear and no stored energy to snap back at ya if it breaks

so far my factory A/C - Warn is still holding up with synthetic line used replacing the factory steel ... but will buy a KFI next

name is Gary or hey you if ya forget

2009 Prowler XTZ , couple things added here and there
'83 CJ7 / SBC + whole lot added here and there
'01 Dodge / Cummins / Dually, a ton of stuff added here and there

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE NEWBIES ...
1. Bring in a good load of firewood for the pit
2. start the morning coffee , strong but not burnt / boiled down , IMPORTANT start it early as many of us old farts get up early !!
3. sit a spell and swap some lies with the best of us

I have the factory Warn winch on mine with the steel cable and what Gary suggest about fabing up section with rollers is something I should do. If you see some of my pics the bar below the winch has a piece of white PVC pipe on it because of the angle the cable rubs on the bumper.

I have heard a lot of good things about the KFI winch,I have two buddys that use them with no problems.I think 300 dollars will buy one and it will bolt right to the artic cat winch plate.

could anybody post pictures of their winch and the way it is mounted, my kfi se-45 showed up today, a badass winch from what I can tell, gonna get started mounting seeing as the whole prowler is in parts and pieces now (bad water pump) I may as well work on that till parts show up. But instructions could just as well as not come with it as they dont explain anything.

Thanks!
