4WD relay?

While cleaning out my storage compartment, I found a relay in the bottom that I had taken out on a hunting trip about 2 yrs ago. While on a trip, I noticed my 4WD wasn't engaging. Was a hundred miles from nowhere so I started playing with the fuses. I removed one relay, that said 2 or 4WD underneath it, and then my 4WD started to work again? (I could hear it engaging). This made no sense at all to me, so I reinstalled the relay...It quit working. So I just left it out and haven't had a problem since. Im sure it does something??? The dealer couldn't answer the question. It works fine with the relay out, but wont work with it in! Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks.

I'm taking a complete shot in the dark on this one. Cause I really have no idea on the way their four wheel drive is set up.

Does the machine run any different, such as did any of the limiters change? Such as the four low and diff lock rev limiter. Could the relay be part of the governing of the ECM.

Or does it just control your instrument cluster?

Or maybe even both?

Hey mike! I tried different relays in it. maybe next time your under the drivers seat, you could pull out your relay and then tell me if you hear your actuator work? mine only works when the relay is out???

Garage
That does seem strange that it still works with the relay out, the relay should just keep you from spiking the electrical system when turning accessories on or off.
