'06 XT CVT noise

I have an '06 650 Prowler XT, developed a bad grinding noise coming from the CVT when braking. It only happens with no throttle applied while braking. No other problematic sounds while at speed, accelerating or even decelerating without the brakes. Any ideas out there of where to start, or where a better place to post this inquiry here would be? Thanks.

Are you sure its coming from your cvt? sounds to me like it might be your rear brakes... you might want to start there then work your way in.. if I had to guess.. your rear brakes are wore out.. depending on where you drive, sometimes they wear out fast..

I belive it could be a warped rear rotor.
Common issue with older cats driveline brake

Already changed the rear pads, rotor does not seem warped. Also, brand new pads all around and new rotors last year on both fronts. Sound definitely amplified when we remove the center console and drive at speed, then decelerate using brakes with no throttle applied. We thought the same thing about the pads and rotors the whole way around the rig, but figured if that was truly the case, it would make the same grinding noise irregardless of whether or not throttle was applied while putting the binders on.

If you wanna know for sure remove the rear caliper and install a wood wedge or spacer in between the rear caliper-pads. Now try it is the noise still there. If not it is the rear rotor being warped.
If it is still there get it on jack stands and find out for sure where it is coming from. You can use a screw driver placed blade first to the clutch cover with you ear at the handle end like stethoscope to listen to the clutches. I recommend a long screw driver.

Is it free wheeling more than normal like the one way bearing is gone or going? Or do you still have good engine braking?

I'll have to get it on jackstands the next time I'm in the garage, probably this weekend. Engine braking still seems fine. Haven't tried the spacers or wood wedge yet.
