2006 Prowler 650 question

Hello,
I am looking to join the Prowler family but I need some input. I am going to look at a used 2006 650 and need to know what to look out for. It has been converted to a four seater and has spacers on all wheels. As far as I know those are the only mods. In general, how is the 2006 650?

Welcome to the site Scorpion, first thing i would check are the uprights that go vertical on the frame.Especially in the back around the rear suspension.Second thing is the shock mounts in the front on top.Look at the cross piece as best you can.You will be looking for stress cracks in the welds or material around them. The front ends tend to crack on the horizontal piece that goes in between the upper shock mounts. These are issues that will surface if the machine has been abused.
A couple other things are the tie rods, make sure they are not bent or have been bent and straightened. Also the parking brake needs to be checked. Most of the time they do not work from being out of adjustment and too much cable stretch.
All in all pretty happy with my 06 but i am heavy into mods.I am pretty sure a few other guys will jump in here too.

Welcome to the site Scorpion5. I have a 2006 650 XT Prowler which was my firts side by side. 2006 was the first build year for the Prowlers. Sandchris really knows these machines and pointed out some really good key points. I have a four seat cage with a rear bench for the kids and we love it. The Prowler will go every sand dunes, mountian trails/roads, rock crawling. I have wheel spacers also and it really seems to help spread the foot print. I best thing I would suggest is to checked over the entire unit, look at the frame for any cracks, check the air cleaner so see if it has been kept clean, I would check the engine oil for it's condition, coolant condition, test drive this unit in all drive modes, top speed can reach 47-51 mph. As for service records. Hope this helps

It's made in the USA by the way.

Welcome to the site!!

I bought a new Arctic cat in 09 and love it, Made in USA is big, but the arctic cat just seems to have a little bit more than other utv's, 06's included!

Its a buyers market out there, hate to say it but i would be low balling anyone i bought a vehicle from right now.

Another thing to check is the rear brake pads and rotor to make sure no one drove with the parking brake on. 06 didn't have the idiot light for the parking brake and since they don't work most of the time many people forget that its on.

I had an 06 xt and it was a very good machine. My biggest problem was diff seals. I find out now thatit is a vent problem that is easily fixed. I would not hesitate buying one. Yes they do have there quirks but they all do. The way the machine has been treated by the previous owner is more important than anything. Good Luck , and have fun.

Thanks to all of you that responded to my questions. I am in Northern Cali. and I don't see to many Arctic Cats up here. I hope to change that! They seem like good capable machines and hope to own one soon.
