Summer Riding

Hey guys! Sorry for the off-and-on visits to the site here. It's been a busy year so far. So I'll summarize a bit:

1) The Prowler is doing A-OK. I haven't really done much more in terms of customization this year. She's due for brake pads up front, but that's about it. For the most part, we've just drove it. Still love the old gal. Even with all these newer, higher horsepower units coming out I don't have any complaints about how the old 700 does on the trails. If there's one mod that I've placed on my list, it's putting on a new pre-filter.

2) I ditched the Redneck Toyhauler I built. Bottom line: We needed a lot more room for the family. Luckily it sold really REALLY fast. In its place, I picked up a nice 1986 Shelton Vacationeer 10' cabover camper for $600. The gray and black water tanks had been removed and it needed the plumbing redone under the bathroom. Guy originally wanted a grand for it, but took my offer of $600 since multiple previously interested parties shied away due to the work that needed done. $40 in plumbing hardware and a few hours of my time and she was up and ready to go! Fridge, Stove, Heater, Water Heater, A/C, and water pump all work great.

3) My diesel experiment came to a disappointing end. The 04 Powerstroke I had bought went all to hell about 2 weeks after I bought it. In the 3 months I owned the truck I had to replace: water pump, fan clutch, 4 injectors, EGR cooler, Oil Cooler, Exhaust back pressure sensor, EGR Valve, cold side CAC tube, on top of having to replace both batteries and serpentine belt. Let's just say that I became a bit too familiar with diesel motors. I spent more time working on it than I did driving it. So it got ditched in favor of a newer F250 with a V10. The new truck is great and I have no trust issues with it. lol

4) My wife recently had to have surgery on both of her feet which has laid her up for nearly two months. She's healing up fine and is able to put weight back on one of them. The other is still in a boot.

In the midst of everything else, we were able to get out on some rides and enjoy the outdoors.

Ya. It was a dang 6 point uh oh. Learned my lesson with that truck. But, this 06 3v V10 I bought has been amazing so far. More than enough power and a dang nice riding truck overall. Fuel mileage isnt the best, but I didn't expect great from a 6.8L motor.

That Cascade ride sounds like a blast. What loop are they running?

I just realized how small the pics were. Sorry. I uploaded larger images to my album.

This was my buddies power stroke last week.. had to wait a couple hours for my wife to bring my truck and trailer down to haul it back to the shop. Nothing makes me happier than hauling a ford with my chevy LOL

Looks like ya had a nice ride and a great score on the cab over!

Glad to see your back Mavic, glad your wife is doing better, looks like your having a good time riding.these old prowlers will hang with the new buggys ,they might not go as fast, and might be a little noisy but as long as your riding that's all that matters.and the brand don't matter either.its all about having fun.take care buddy stay in touch.

Just want to join in on the fun of summer rides, since I haven't posted for a while. I share the pain of truck etc. problems and want to tell you my fun so far this summer. Wrecked my engine in the 1985 300SD Mercedes diesel with 325K miles on it driving about 90mph in the middle of the Baja. Cooling belt came off and I noticed it too late...Short story, found a 1985 engine in Pennsylvania, had it shipped to Loreto, BCS Mexico where I installed it with my boat mechanic. AC compressor was also damaged, could not be done here, made a 2000 mi trip to LA where new compressor and dryer were installed and had new motor and tranny mounts installed. "New" engine has 97K miles on it and runs like new. Drove it hard these miles running it 90 and over 100 mph for long distances. Project complete for a 29yr old vintage car.
Arctic Cat 2008 xt runs every day, I have over 9300 miles on it (2nd engine), did with help of this forum gauge installation and added Alu skid plates. Unit is a lot of fun only normal maintenance required....
Ford 250 1984 diesel used as my boat tow truck just launched a 31ft CABO, aside of using oil, it keeps on running on the 2nd engine.
Duramax diesel 2002 no problem, neither my 1995 23ft Parker diesel boat, hull #1, also no problem after I replaced the GPS and found out that the wire from the through hull sender had the problem.

In all, cheers to all of you enjoy life and thanks for the friendliness and help you have provided when I needed it!
