well a week into trip

so far no big issues and some good miles under our belt , no side trips yet as we've been in these areas before .. new ground started yesterday .. we started out in the Minneapolis Mn area and went south to Lena Illinois KOA [nice one BTW] ..today heading to Indianapolis Indiana and overnighting there ..going to the track and seeing it and what ever museum they have there , then on to Eldora for a race sunday night .. now the real trip will start soon ..
US of A founding history and Civil War history while going to any National Park in route as a cake topper .. we'll be staying for a good visit in North Carolina at Becca's family , visiting with some aged relatives that may not be around too much longer, figuring a "last visit " type of thing.. figure that we'll put on 10 to 15K miles this trip before we're home as we criss cross some areas looking at history real well .. maybe some DC site seeing but not Smithsonian as that will take a couple weeks by itself maybe some highlights of it only this trip we'll see what the Miss says .. not really too excited to stay in RV parks near DC [in my mind crime ridden areas] but again we'll see what the day brings.
getting near 11 MPG towing heavy in the truck , not bad as 16-17 empty is normal for my rig.
well into corn country now .

any suggestions / thoughts of must see's side trips welcome as all new area to me, and "AAA tour" books can be a real PIA to read through LOL

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE NEWBIES ...
1. Bring in a good load of firewood for the pit
2. start the morning coffee , strong but not burnt / boiled down , IMPORTANT start it early as many of us old farts get up early !!
3. sit a spell and swap some lies with the best of us

Sounds like a nice trip. If you were in Lena, IL, you weren't all that far from me. About 2 hours. You must have driven through Wisconsin. Some decent ATV riding just across the border where you can ride on designated roads through town, hit bars and whatnot through three counties. Just gotta buy a registration sticker for like $15. Be safe out there!

If you interested in staying around Asheville, NC, theres a nice campground called Rutledge Lake. We stayed there last May and they treated us very well.

went to Eldora Speedway last night , WOW what a track … best dirt track I have ever seen

they were non stop with the program too , one race / heat / semi /main after the other no time spent on BS … track prep was spot on and the best I have ever seen. I assume not much change since Tony bought the track, but what a class program !
we didn't camp there figured we needed the A/C for the dogs so are at a KOA about 45 min. away. dry camp only there and understand fully why … huge camp area's
Hats off to the Big E for a real treat seeing this track and operation , and as a side benefit a real history place.
OH and a huge turn out of cars, a prelim for next weeks big race weekend / Test n tune .. also a tribute to the original long time owners .

look at the race schedules before you go so you can see a big race … WELL WORTH IT .. you can take lounge chairs and be comfy too , grand stand seating is really loud ear plugs needed for bad eared folks like me , noise will rapppp your ear drums bad. it was very humid so if ya go maybe the lawn seating would be better as grand stands are all enclosed on the back = low air movement.
again well worth the trip !!!!!!
