Misfire Question - 06 Polaris

In addition to my Prowler, I also have a 2006 Polaris Hawkeye 300 4x4 that my son rides which is carbureted and snorkeled. Everything works great on it except when going to through semi-deep water I noticed it will start to spit and sputter for a while. After an hour or so of only being able to idle it will be fine. Any suggestions of what could be causing it?

I have the same problem with my Prowler which isn't snorkeled, I read on a magazine site where my problem could be steam being sucked into the intake and filling the air box with moisture. It makes sense in my case, a lot of steam comes up between the bed where the intake is located.

Any chance you have an air leak somewhere close to the air box where it might suck in some steam?

Not sure. The air box did have some moisture in it, not much but some, so that could be it.

Sure sounds like moisture is causing your problem, how are your plug wire (s)? Bad wires will break down any time moisture is present! Filter element getting wet would allow the carb to suck in moisture, and it would take a while to clear. Just my thoughts!

I was thinking the plug wire as well myself just based off of how it was acting. After it dried up it was good to go. Maybe I could take a spray bottle of water and hit just the plug wire itself to see if I can duplicate it?

Either that or spray the wire with WD40.

Might have to check my plug wire also, it's the factory one.

Fairmont, not trying to ask a dumb question, but what will the WD40 do? Will that help remedy the problem or help find it? I know WD40 can help repel water so just making sure I understand.

Thanks,

Just repels any moisture. We are on the same page! Hope you find the problem!

Is there a vent line on the carb? I have a Suzuki Eiger 400. There's a vent line for the carb that gets routed upward close to the air inlet up near the tank. ONe time, that vent line came out of place and was drooping down. If I went in deep water and it got to that vent line, it would kill the motor instantly.
