Question Need help with my prowler?

Hello, everyone i just got my first prowler yesterday and got it home with a flat tire. I already plugged the tire but now im having issues with shifting and my brakes. When i try to shift it while its running it can only go from High to low and jumps around from neutrual and high and some times goes out to reverse? Also sometimes when i turn right and try to go in a circle by brake hangs up for a couple seconds and makes the utv slide. i put some blaster on the brake caliper and it was extreamly hot. also when i hit the brakes it wont hardly do anything unless i put the brake the whole way down and then it has a horrible rattle? Where do i start??? Also looking for new plastics, a bed lift, and a new dash if possible. Hope fully not to many more problems other than needing some tlc. I cant figure out what to do. Thanks in advance!

fill out your signature , and location so we can help without more questions to answer a question ..

need more into what rig did you get [model and year]

prowlers have a goofy emergency brake that can and will cause many issues including a burn down .. they must be off 100% or they will overheat lots of things and cause a fire. they can't be on even one click or it will drag.

some have had routing issues with the control cable on that brake so check it carefully !!

shifting issues is usually a cable adjustment , these are not meant to be shifted from low to high or back when running .. you can shift the 4 wheel in to 4 high while moving but not in to low or you blow up the tranny or front end.

if the brakes are heated up badly they will do goofy things like grab so check and recheck the emergency brake

name is Gary or hey you if ya forget

2009 Prowler XTZ , couple things added here and there
'83 CJ7 / SBC + whole lot added here and there
'01 Dodge / Cummins / Dually, a ton of stuff added here and there

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE NEWBIES ...
1. Bring in a good load of firewood for the pit
2. start the morning coffee , strong but not burnt / boiled down , IMPORTANT start it early as many of us old farts get up early !!
3. sit a spell and swap some lies with the best of us

Welcome to the site! The rear drive line brake will rattle one of Arctic Cats quick fixes was anti rattle springs, check your rear brake and see if it has 2 springs on the pads if it does one thing that helped my rattle was putting a peace of heater hose under the springs to tighten them up.

Yep Gary's right you can only shift when you are stopped and the rpm's are below I think 1250-1350 at idle. If your idle is too high it won't shift right, if your idle is correct then I would do what he said and check the linkage.

Now when your turning a tight circle you will have one tire slip due to the way these things are designed unless you have a newer rig with the turf saver. Give us a little more info on year and model of your Prowler.

Sorry, it's a 06 650 h1. Last night I used the parking brake and when I pulled the release it didn't seem to take it the whole way and the light was on so I held the release out and pulled the pedal and haven't had the wheel lock up since. It was also in 4wd even though it was set to 2wd all it took was putting it in and out then going in reverse.

The shift linkage was also very loose so I tightened it as much as I could with my fingers and it seems to shift better
