My prowler is stuck in gear (possibly 2 gears) and I can't get it out without going to the lever on the side of the transmission and tap it out with a hammer. As soon as I try to put it any gear it immediately locks up again. Just before this happened, I would hear a a chattering sound when placing it in a forward gear before it would engage. I also found that the shifting lever shaft that goes into the case can be slide in and out disengaging inside and can be put in any position. Anybody else have this problem, and what had to be done to fix it. Any help anyone can give me would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just curious, what is your RPM's when in neutral? Idle RPM should be 1250-1350 or less anything higher the clutch will engage and will cause hard shifting.

I don't know the exact rpms, but I know it's that or lower. That's a fair question though. I haven't looked into it further due to the cold weather, but I am wondering if maybe the clutch isn't releasing. Thanks for the input.

Another thought, one-way bearing bad? I took mine out after hearing about problems with them.

You said you took it out. Do you mean that you replaced it with a new one? Earlier this year when I would let off the accelerator, I would sometimes hear something like marbles rattling around. Maybe that was the one-way bearing doing that and led up to this issue. Just kind of wonder now.

I took it out, Arctic Cat put out a service bulletin years ago that I think said if you push snow or tow heavy loads it could fail and to remove it. You don't need to replace it, just remove it. You'll loose some low speed engine braking but that's it.
