I have a 09 artic cat prowler 1000 efi I traded my 4 wheeler for a couple weeks ago. I only put a mile on it before something went wrong. I pulled in my drive way after riding it down a small trail by my house I switched from high gear to low gear to get ready to pull up in my shop the shifter got stuck i disconcected the linkage and tried to get it to shift to any gear I guess it was stuck between high an low an would just rev. Tried rockin it but not luck so I pulled the engine removed belt cover an manually turned the cvt clutches an it freed up the shifter. So I put the engine back in the prowler and could shift all gears but all i had was reverse. Forward gears would try to move it but it was makin a noise from trans or clutch sounded like a faint grinding so I pulled the engine again and now when i turn the cvt counter clockwise the drive shafts turn for which gear im in like nothing is wrong.
Im stumped any help or ideas are greatly appreciated I have a service manual incase it come to tearing it down. Could the wet clutch be bad?

Gary I did mean an 6 point! LOL Old Age? Great that you got everything, get us some pictures of the damage! Good Luck on the build! The only concerns I ever had was the cam timing! Once done I usually hit it on the first try!

I'm an ex-Snap On Dealer [ late 70's thru early 80's] so those things stick out like a sore thumb .. and yes I do have a nice set of tools :)
Hard to beat snap on tools! My dad was a Pontiac dealership mechanic in the 50's and early 60's, all of his tools are snap on, and I received them when he passed on! Great memories with the tools, and learned a lot about auto's at a very early age! What a great time we had!

Case does not look all that bad, looks like you are getting off fairly cheap! Just think what the tab would be if you had to pay someone to do it! YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL
Yeah you ain't lying Id go broke trying to pay someone. I was cleaning out the bottom case an found this broke off piece of a slotted washer/spacer any idea of what it might be?

Looks like a thrust washer.. My gears looked the same when I looked with a boroscope.
looks like it came off a splined shaft or maybe an worn off E-Clip ????
Looks like it was important..wish I could find the other half or the rest of it I got a real bright light im goin to shine in there an hopefully find where it may have broke off
That was my thought also! Maybe you get lucky, and it is still on the shaft.
Didn't get the chance to look today. There's a guy I found on facebook parting out a thundercat 1000 said the top end was trashed. He said he used to work for a arctic cat dealer an the prowler an thundercat 1000 engines are exactly the same. Would any of you happen to know.? I found a gasket kit for a thundercat 1000 an was told it wouldn't work on the xtz 1000. But if it's the same I could prolly just put my heads an Pistons in it maybe a long shot?
Found the shaft it came off of just don't know exactly where it came off but the only shaft that is slotted like that is the actuall gear selector shaft.
I always thought that the AC engines were pretty much the same for the ATV's/UTV's. Exhaust and add on components are different, but the case, internals, and heads should inter change. Checked the parts lists for the ATV 1000, and the UTV 1000, cylinder heads are the same part number, crankcase is the same, and secondary transmission also carry the same parts numbers. This was checked in the AC parts manuals.
Ok thanks. I might go that route an atleast just get the gears out if there any good said he would cut me a deal on it so il prob go check it out today or tomorrow for $300 can't beat it il have a spare parts engine too I guess. Thanks again for your help il let Yall know what I do.
Glad to help! I have been collecting 700 parts for about two years! I have a case, cylinder, piston, head, cam& rockers, and secondary transmission gears! I want to build another 700/750 engine complete and ready to drop in. T want to keep it under 1,800.00 dollars complete, so far so good! Next up is to find a complete trashed engine for other bolt on parts. I plan on buying a new crank and rod.
Yeah I have 2 spare grizzly 700 engines I've built sittin in the shop I have enough parts to build Atleast one whole bike just need to find a good frame an thatll be my next project. So I know what you mean
Here's the one i just got next to the old one in pieces might end up just putting gears in mine depending on top end condition of this new engine
