Are you jacking your prowler up to get pressure off of shock?If so dont be afraid to slip a piece of pipe or tubing over your spanner wrench for a little help.Also cheap spring compressor is hose clamps.You might need to use 4-6-8 clamps.Just spread them around the spring and skip a coil if your clamps are big enough.Tighten them evenly and you should be able to reassemble your stock shock.
Adjust stock shock/springs???
I have the little tool that should allow me to adjustt he preload on the springs, any idea how to do it? They seem to be way to sprung to allow me to rotate. Also, this stems from snapping a right rear shock last trip, what type of spring compresser works well to reassemble coil over shock?? Thanks Mark

Ya this is good info, they shipped My new Prowler with the shocks all the was loose, super soft suspension. i was bottoming the hell out of it over the whoops.
Seems like I was only bottoming the rear end? the front seemed way stiffer. I wonder if this was a mistake by the shop i bought it from. The guys know how I ride? I was surprised.

Out of curiosity how are the stock shocks holding up for you guys? I broke 3 prior to going long travel. All rears.
Thanks for the info, this is the first shock I have broken, on a kiddie ride to boot! Must have been stressed from a previous midnight run!!! Mine has a rear cage and seat, so I figure thats adding quite a bit of weight to the rear suspension. Ill prolly go ahead and buy a spare just to make sure I dont break another, already carry one tie rod and have another in the hauler. I would like to find a compact style spring compressor if anyone knows of one??? Thanks again

The shocks on the 1000 are much better than the previous stock shocks. I don't think they will come apart like the old ones. Got it all back together, I wish I hadnt paied a mc shop to put the spring together, I used the harbor freight hose clamps I had laying around and didnt think they would survive but they even did both sides! Good tip sandchris! I set them up one click away from stiffest, will see how that goes, always felt a little soft in the rear since I have a 4 seater cage and seat back there.

Oh yea the artic cat spanner wrench is junk, broke with only a small cheater bar on it, ended up using giant channel locks to adjust it.
The 1000 rear shocks are longer.Different mounting location.

my 1000 has the 4 person cage and the rear sags for sure... i hit quite a few rocks this weekend up in the hills...i wouldnt say 10 inches of travel, more like 7. GOing to try and crank the preload and see what happens..if not. maybe a longer/stiffer shock set for the rear?
I would like to see someone come out with stock rear spring replacement. One that you can install for a little extra lift when we put on the full cage and rear seats. I know they do if you buy fox, elka etc, but something a little more affordable for the simple prowler owner. $375-$400 a corner is a hard sell.
I too have rear cage and seats and even with the springs adjusted to the stiffest setting I thought the ride was too soft in the back. I took a some 7/8" rubber I acquired from a friend and made spring spacers out of it. So far this helped tremendously. I don't do much extreme riding (tends to spill the cold beer), just mainly trails so I don't know if this would work for everyone. If interested, I cut them with a 3 1/2" hole saw then drilled the center to 1 1/4", sliced and installed them with all weight off the springs.
I adjusted mine all the way down it worked much better. Working on a spring replacement and hope to have it soon.

How about a dual rate spring?
We are also designing a long travel suspension kit. We will look into doing a dual rate spring on that but have not made a decision yet. I will ask about a dual rate spring for the stock shock.
