I did a mod on the prefilter on my XTZ and it has worked out great. With the stock set up I would have to clean it everyday. I switched to to a UNI filter and still had to clean it everyday so I closed off the area from the filter system to the rear tire, then left off the inspection door so it gets its air behind the seat. It has worked so good I don't need to clean it for a few days. I clean the main filter only when I come home after a lot of rides. Here are some pictures.
I also made a billet end piece to make it easier to clamp the filter, the plastic would slip off of the oiled filter.

Yes, I didn't touch the filter on the top of the motor. I just don't have to clean it very often. The pre-filter is also in the same place.
