hey guys .. got a question here

I'm about to do a Brake restoration to my truck with 270K miles , all for corners are being upgraded and rebuilt ....

anyway I posted on the diesel site I go to every day [the only two sites I go daily are here and that one] that I was doing this and adding a DOT 5,1 fluid flush and refill with DOT 5.1 .. one of the "thinks he's hot mechanic guys" comes back with a bunch of negatives about using 5.1 , mostly about having to constantly having to bleed the system as it gets mushy if left sitting long [from his track car days] .... my truck sits a long time between uses as I only use it to tow now days.

anyway any of you ever have first hand knowledge of ANY issues with DOT 5.1 Brake Fluid ??? .. I used it one time in the past but not in a long time now and had zero issues , I'm thinking he was full of himself again and expounding on his knowledge of ??? questionable info or his system wasn't in good shape to begin with ??? what say you ?????

just don't confuse the two .. DOT 5 and DOT 5.1 , DOT 5 IS NOT COMPATIBLE with the other DOT heat ranges . It's a different compound and will destroy the seals of the common DOT systems

Don't know about using in the truck, but I used Dot 5.1 in my Prowler and didn't have any complaints.

the good news is it raises the boiling point to the highest level for all the different fluids ...

my thinking is the knowitall guy was passing on his knowledge of nutt'in to all who would read his post ... he one of THOSE guys.

BTW Shane .. I'm heading up to St. Maries Id for a nice long trip Wed. , be out on the river that feeds the Lake [ Coeur d'Alene] from the south end. friend has a river front 5 acre lot there ... I'll wave on my way by lol [I usually pick up 84 off 95 by Ontario ] I find that a nice route up through Tri-Cities ... there are some better rural routes but I'm towing a 33' trailer and my flat bed truck will have the Prowler on it , so prefer larger highways [traveling like a rich okie]

From what I've found DOT5.1 seems to be the way to go. Plays well with others!

Well a big ass deer decided to attack my Toyota Tacoma PU! Hit me just behind the drivers side front wheel, spun around and his ass hit the drivers side door, deer crap all over the drivers side! After the hit, he landed in the opposite side of the road and was promptly run over by a large truck! Don't know who was more surprised, us, the truck driver, or the now deceased deer! He was second in line, I missed the first one!

probably brake fluid might not have made a difference .. SORRY hope the repairs are low $$ and fast

BTW the 5,1 and the new brakes are the best this truck have ever had , stops real well even with the loads I put on it .. I do load it like it's a 5500 as I've said before .

slotted and dimpled rotors new loaded calipers with "performance" pucks and DOT 5.1 fluid

be sure to say the Deer ran into your truck not you ran into the Deer to your insurance guy , with some companies it's "chargeable or a ding against you if say it wrong.

I firmly stated that the deer ran into me. GD insurance costs an arm and a leg and then you have to kiss their ass to use it! We pay a higher premium so the dead beats in Detroit and Flint can afford insurance! Most of them are in-insured anyway!
