Sometimes when i'm going through pretty deep mudholes, my engine want to start cutting out and stalling. Sometimes it won't even keep running. It will start back up after turning over a few times and run fine. It's not getting any water in the intake.I've checked it every time. What puzzles me is i can go through even deeper mudholes at another time, and it won't do this. It will run and idle fine in and through the mudhole. I've even youtubed prowlers and seen other ones do the same thing. It's very puzzling and aggrevating.:mad: You just don't know when its going to act up.:confused: Can someone please help me out with this problem. I greatly appreciate any help.

Mine did this one time. I was going through a deep bowl shaped hole that had stuck a griz and brute. Nearly climbed out of it but as I would go up the other side the tailpipe would go under the mud and that was enough to make it lose power and almost die, I would roll back tailipipe would clear out and I would start all over again. It suprised me how easy it was to make the motor die out with the tailpipe barely under.

My 700 xtx was doing the same thing only in water. It would idle fine and run low rpm but when you would get in to it hard it would miss and back fire. I checked my coil and found the way it was bolted on it was mashing the spark plug wire up against the mounting plate, i took it off and coated it with liquid tape about 4 coats and shimmed it away from the mounting plate about a 1/4". I have not had a chance to ride in the water yet but have noticed it starts easier and seems to run better.

It doesn't matter if my tail pipe is under the water or not. I went through a pretty deep hole saturday night and it acted up like this again. It's happened alot. But later that same night i went through a much deeper mudhole, up to the seats, tail pipe completely submerged, and nothing. It didn't even offer to spudder or act up. It ran through just like i was on dry ground. I don't know where to start looking. It's very confusing. That idea about the coil and wires is something to look at. Everbody i ride with seems to think it might be electrical or some kind of naked wire exsposed. But if it was that i would think it would do it all the time. Maybe it is something to do with the coil or wires. Any other suggestions? Anyone?

You might want to try filling the spark plug boot with di-electric grease, this has cured many an atv with similar issues.

Thanks for the advise. I'm willing to try anything. I'll check and do both suggestions.
