I am in need of some advice here. I have an arctic cat prowler xtx 700, 2008 and its leaking fluid from the front differental. I have it at the shop but the guy tells me that i will probably need a new differential. He said that he cant tell by the leak alone if it needs a new seal or o-ring or if it is messed up inside to were i would need a new differential and thats why he will need to pull it out and take a look. I have no other issues with it except the leak. I need to know before this friday on what i need to know about this issue. He has been in business and working on all kinds of utv and atv etc.... for 25yrs. I just dont want to be mislead on this matter. how would I know if it was or was not the differential. I live in yuma,az and i would hate to take it 3hrs either way to phoenix or san diego just for that but if I have too I will. I need all the info I can get about this before I have him tear it apart. I would appreciate it.

thanks!!!

From the differential casing I believe somewhere around there my wife found it. He told me when they checked the fluid level it had 2 thimbles fullof fluid in it. Thats why he was saying he cant tell by just looking at. He wants to take it apart and see. Have you heard of AZ Moto city there in avondale,az? The guy there told me that there would be metal peices in there if the differential was damaged. thats its just an o-ring fix. I just dont know who to beleive. The guy at Moto wants me to bring it there to him.

thanks!

I have seen some that have a loose pin on the crown gear. The word is that the pin material is too hard and the weld did not penetrate. Centrifugal force takes over and after a while, the pin dislodges and contacts the case. The result is usually catastrophic. Yours might be the start of it.
Cat has been good to me and covered the gearcase only. I only paid for the Cat dealer to install it - good deal in my opinion.
Yes you would be wise to remove the drain plug and look for metal in the oil. If there is, bring it to a Cat dealer. Maybe they can help you out.
Mine's a 2008 650H1 XT. Apparently this was common on 08 models
