I have a 1995 440 jag with electric start. When I got it the starting part was not working. I replaced the starter and the starting solenoid and now if I put power to the solenoid activation pin it will start (with the key "on"). But if I try to use the key to start the unit all it does is blow the fuse. The brown wire that is connected to the second post on the solenoid also got hot and melted the shield.

I think the short is in the wire that goes from stator to the battery (charging circuit). Does anyone know how I can test to see if that is the problem.

your best bet is to try a site like arctic chat or hard core sleders HCS. Google it you will find the info you need. I drive a 2011 Z1. I have never owned any cats that old and when any of machines became trouble I sold or traded them in. LOL
