I've been chasing a noise in my XTZ 1000 the entire summer. Thought it was clutch! HA! :nerd:
Crank is shot, complete failure. Brass shim filings from the crank sand blasted both piston skirts. Both cylinders are done. Both pistons along with the rings are done. So, I ORDERED A NEW CRANKSHAFT, ALL THE LOWER CASE BEARINGS, BOTH CYLINDERS WITH PISTONS AND RINGS, AND ALL THE GASKETS AND SEALS. ARCTIC CAT GOTTA LOVE GUY'S LIKE US! :x I'm gonna have a new relationship with my Prowler when this is over!

It had just rolled past 3000. My brother has over 13,000 on his and going strong! Hasn't touched it.

Butch, follow the manual and the job is pretty easy. Only special tools I needed were the case splitter, and a flywheel puller. I bought the cheap case splitter from Rocky Mountain ATV, and it is a very high quality tool for the price (69.95), the puller came off ebay. A ring compressor makes for easy installation of the cylinders!

I don't think the job is overwhelming other than 2 hours of electrical unplugging! I used a large 3 jaw to pull the flywheel. I set the block on 4x4 blocks and taped the corners and the case easily split. Thing is, when I'm done with this job I'll know it's been done right. I'm not cutting any corners. I'll know my motor better than my wife! HA! I'm right around $1000.00 for parts and think I have what I need. I did some savings shopping eBay rather than Arctic Cat gouging me! I didn't think my cylinders were that bas but MillenniumTec said if you can feel any imperfections with your fingernail they need to be rebuilt! Dam! It was 5800.00 for a crate motor! And figured I'd be about 3000.00 to take it to a shop so................ I have more confidence in my own work than any local shop :D

Cost wise, that's not bad! Wanna re-coup some $$$, you can sell me your lift kit! I wish HCR was still making them for the Prowler, another company that dumped us Prowler people!

ha ha, That's what forces me into the complete rebuild! That suspension lift is the ticket on this machine! They ran better than 5 grand with the shocks when they built it! The ride is incredible compared to stock. Another thing is I have the tiger track kit for it! With very little mods the tracks bolt right on the arms from HCR Racing. I didn't need all those bracket attachments! I simply drilled 2 holes in each A-Arm and bolted the top bracket on. Better than bolting to the tube arms! To much into this thing to look back!

I'm Still trying to figure out why these things run so damn hot. Going to get my advancing timing light today out of my shop box and see where the timing is..Changed out my melted cargo box yesterday but AC says nothing wrong...

Should rename the forum to Prowler$$$$ instead of talk.
I have so much in mine, I can't part with it either. I'ld loose my butt. Just gonna keep it, maybe buy a new SXS for running the trails and easy rides. Just use the Prowler for timbers at the farm and plowing.
Still looking at the street legal Reepers. They make a new 2 seater 1100 4 cylinder. Suppose to run 80 mph.

I'll have my Prowler til death! Good machine, meets my needs, and I enjoy working on it! Planning on the Cheese Trails this summer/late spring!

Lot to be said about rebuilding your own! I lubed all of the bearings with moly-lube after I dropped them in the case. Old Habit!

Always did the same. I found a tube of Napa MolyLube I bought in the early 80's in my tool cabinet a few years ago. It was barely separated. Good stuff! I used a few swipes on my trucks door hinges. Quiets them right down.
