Hi ,I,m a new member to your forum. Thank You for having Me. I have a few cats around , having same issue with starting of 2008 Prowler 700 xtx. I was born with a wrench in hand but this cat baffles me. I tried starting witk full throttle , won,t even roll over. Put a new battery in 750 cranking amps , doesn,t make any difference. I have it running at the moment , but every time I need to use it,it is very hard to start. New starter maybe??

Welcome to the site! there are a lot of really good people on here that I'm sure will help you! I have an 08 also, after mine sits for awhile, it seems the fuel drains back to the tank. There is a manual pump on the bottom of your carb, try pumping it slowly about 6 times and then try to start. There is a thread on here addressing this problem. Also, the fuel lines can get cracks and let air in, but not leak fuel, try replacing the lines. This is just a thought and easy to try! good luck.

Welcome to the site! Is your 2008 EFI? I think they used it in 08 but not sure. The EFI unit is good, only issues I'm aware of is cracked fuel lines, AC recommends replacing them every 2-3 years. The starter could draw enough voltage down that could effect the ECM. I have a 2009 XTX 700 (same machine as you have), my starter did go bad, and the voltage dropped to 3.5 volts when trying to start, replaced the starter and it cured the problem. I think the ECM takes a hit when voltage is less than 9 volts. Hook a volt meter to the starter and crank the engine, watch the voltage reading. Mine starts up immediately even after sitting for a week.

I dont think the 08 is injected RD. It seems that hard starting in the cold is a pretty common issue. I would think that some sort of primer might help?

welcome P 4 C ... where is the home front located .. many a good knowledgable guy on here ask away , someone will figure out the issues and direct you down the path to wheeling heaven LOL

how often between uses and do you store in a shop/garage ?? thinking the fuel might just dry up .. or does you unit have a fuel pump [I have no XTX knowledge] that is weak/failing .. already addressed is the fuel lines with cracks .. carb in good shape ? long storage between uses causes the fuel to dry in them and leave carpoola in them ... but you knew that Eh .. sometimes just kicking the ball a few times will bring up a thought you overlooked and walla there it is.

fill in you location and signature lines, later on when all our CRS comes to the surface and we can't remember what ya have or where to send ya for parts or services those will allow us to answer without having to ask a question first :) .. several of us are far to old to remember these details hell we have a tuff enough time to remember to pull our zippers up :)

2008 was the first year for the efi and the xtx. They started making a carb 700 in 2009, the 700xt.

A few members have had good luck with changing their spark plug, I would start there.

Thanks Thomas, I couldnt find anything that indicated it was injected in 08......... I did however have an issue with my plug just last week. Seems a real good place to start.

Welcome to the site! I could be wrong but seems I read on here about someone else with a similar problem, seems they even had a new battery but still wouldn't start but they could hook up some cables and jump start it easy. I think it ended up being the starter but with a case of "CRS" I better search to be sure.

I had a 2010 xtx 700 and after storing mine for the winter it didn't want to start either. I spent lots of time scratching my head then I tried changing the spark plug, worked like a charm! every season after that I changed mine out when I did my annual tune up and never had any problems after that. I would definitely start with a new spark plug.
