well spring is around the corner in some parts of our areas, not here in nodak. but anyway i was out on a ride this weekend with temps in the teens and below. my wife had brought up the question if i could install a remote start to this prowler of ours. its a pretty interesting idea that i had thought of before but never put too much into it. running out to start the rig up before we leave would be a nice thing to leave in the past.

i figured i would start the discussion after doing a search on this board (no data) on the idea. has anyone attempted this or completed this? what systems would be best to attempt? ect...

i did find a remote for about 100 us dollars give or take. it is a Scytek A4.2W two way remote. it has more than needed but it also has 3 auxiliary modes for turning on and off extra stuff. in my case it would be a light bar or two and maybe my heater lol. i did look into the motorcycle remotes but they didnt seem to have everything i wanted. simple hookup was about it.

well with that, let the conversation begin.

I don't see why not on a FI engine. The carbed motors may be a different story, since you have to "set" the choke. As long as the parking brake is set, you should be fine!

I agree with Bryan, EFI really makes it possible. Remote start on a Prowler, who would have thought! Keep us posted!

i have installed one remote start in my life and it was not fun but that was over 10 years ago. but from what im looking at with this, it seems pretty straight forward. its just relays and the remote start. the worst is the car security which arctic cat doesnt have. i am thinking i can rig up the hood disconnect to a switch by the battery or under the dash i can flip while doing oil changes.
i like the idea of remote start for the winter. i most likely wont use it during the summer but having the option of clicking the lights on and off remotely seems nice.
if i can build up my toy fund stash (always goes elsewhere) i think im going to pull the trigger on this. gotta get the light bar too

i am changing my system. mostly due to the fact of the brand name and people i know that have them swear by them. im going with a Viper 5305V 2 Way remote start (at this point anyway). its a more popular unit and the Scytek A4.2W is discontinued and i know of not one person that has one. also if i was to get all the features i wanted i would have to step up to the Scytek A5.2W which is much more expensive. i am finding the viper 5305v for around 100 to 130 bucks on ebay. not too much difference there. also if im going to be doing this, i might as well do a build thread. the viper would be an easier system for everyone to locate. even if it isnt the exact model, the wiring will be basically the same. the only thing i dont like is it has one less aux setup than the scytek. but its not like i need the door lock feature. i could set that up as another aux feature if needed.

the one i installed years ago was a bulldog starter. it was a pretty good unit but the remote distance was lacking. it was also a one way system so you never knew if it was running unless you could see the car.

I have that Viper system in my truck. Its range is fantastic. I started it flying into the airport once. When we were on our approach, I hit the button and saw my headlights flash on in the parking lot. We were probably a mile out I bet.

How did your remote start install go ? I ordered the same Viper kit, and am hoping to tackle the install soon.
