Seal Replacement

3257 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ArcticFrost
I have a 2010 Prowler XTZ 1000 and I think the seal at the rear of the engine/trans is leaking. I have narrowed it down to the one circled in the pic on the Secondary Drive Shaft. Is there a special way to remove/install? Do I need any specialty tools? If the bearing in front of the seal is bad, how hard is it to replace? Any specialty tools? Also need the torque spec for the nut on the end of the shaft.

Thank you for the help

The rear output flange nut is a lock nut and you’ll have to open it before it will come off.
If the driven shaft bearing is bad you’ll have to split the engine case. I haven’t known one of those to go bad though.

In this video I show how to replace a seal, pulling it out with a screw and how to put the new one back in.

Torque specs for the output shaft flange/yoke nut is 59 ft.lb. with red loctite.
You can find these torque specs in the service manual as well.

If you don’t have the service manual yet you can get one from countrycat down at the bottom of the page under technical info.

You will have to move the rear drive shaft out of the way to get to it.

I am having the same issue on my HDX. Was wondering if that seal came out ok for you? I tried to pull mine tonight and it wouldn’t budge

You have to pry it out or try putting a screw in it to grab with pliers to pull it out with.

Thanks for the reply. Just to confirm, you can pull it out without externally correct and you don’t need to split the case?

Yes, you don’t have to split the case to remove the rear output seal.
