Hey I have a 08 xt. when I shift the prowler high range, the shifter is actually in the neutral position on the console. Has anybody else had this happen?? Is it ok for me to go ahead and adjust the shifter myself, or should I take it tinto the shop. When I place the shidter in the high range position on the console, the bike seems to me in between high and low range. Also is anybody elses bike hard to shift while on an incline??

this started when I found a bold had came out of the bracket the holds the shifting rod into place.

My ride only has 130 miles on it if this helps

My Shifter actually broke all the way off with in the first month i had it. Where it weld on at the bottom was a good weld if your a blind man. But even though its fixed it gets hung in gears and same as above sometimes in the low spot its high and so fourth. I checked for a missing bolt and so far thats not it i just lube it whenever i am under the cover.

i have had the same problem out of my 08' 650, took it to the dealer, he showed me how to adjust it. it has 680 miles on it now, has been adjusted several times, and still, the same problem, someone else told me to turn the idling down some, that it should help.

I have an 08 xt that I just bought from a dealer who said it is left over, I had the same problem with mine, this is the first day that I actualy took it out. I turned the idle down and that helped but I also found two "c" shaped clips on the bottom of the horizontal part of the shifting rod that was loose, so I tightened them and all seems fine now. Do the dealers put these things together or do they do it at the factory?? So far I have found about half a dozen nuts and bolts missing and many more loose.

I too have had to adjust the shifter several time on a friend's 08 XT 650, however, on the last adjustment I believe the situation to be resolved...the owner had a bolt come off the top shifter at the adjustment/heim joint to shift union. He replaced the bolt and installed the heim joint on the outside (passenger side) of the linkage from the hand shifter. This vertical rod has a slight "jog" or "elbow" at the bottom part which is e-clipped with a pin to the engine/trans. case shifter.
If you look down the shifter, the heim joint flat against the passenger side of the hand shift linkage coming down, it places the linkage in poor alignment from the top down...at a slight angle. I removed the top heim joint through bolt and adjusted the transmission to low, and turned the heim joint down until things lined up (bolt through shift top bracket and then through heim joint...with heim flat on driver's side of hand shift and through bolt nut on passenger (with the bottom "jog" or "elbow" @ the bottom shifter in old position at trans/engine case...things lined right up and now shifting is more precise and indication on the LCD IS SPOT ON when HOT or COLD, DAY or NIGHT and WHENEVER...works GREAT NOW! N is N, H is H, L is L and R is R...shifter/transmission position vs. LCD indication...seems to work fine after 158 miles ofoperation.

I have a 08 650xt prowler an i have also had problems with the shift linkage. I had a friend of mine take it to an arctic cat dealer he uses in his town. He has a brace he makes to fix the problem with the linkage. Been a month an half have had no more problems. I love my prowler but think Arctic Cat do alot better with the shift linkage. I have talked to my friends that own prowlers and they have had the same problems.

Hey guys, There was a change in 09 to the 650 and 700 models. The shift cam and the spring have been changed. The new shift cam is taller and ensures engagement for the trans. The other main problem is that the shifter mechanism is too loose. You might have to build a bracket for it to stiffen it up or change the whole thing over to a cable shifter like the newer ones.
--Found the part #'s for ya if you like.. 0818-089 shift cam, 0818-090 spring
