Okay guys and gals, I'm running out of time and still don't have my logistics together for the V2R Race in August.
I'm looking for pit and chase crews that can help run ahead of the race cars and setup pits (15 pits in all, can be done with 2 crews and 1 chase).

I may have a couple spots open for drivers and navigators also. This will be an estimated 550 mile race that will start on a Friday and end on Saturday, approx. 16-20 hours later, unless there are problems that slow the car down.

The course starts in Beatty, NV and runs back and forth, along the hiway to Carson NV, passing Walker Lake and Hawthorne NV. The course is filled with high speed sections, not as rough as some courses.

Anyone interested. There's no pay, just glory and tons of fun.

May even be time to have a Prowlertalk get together....

We would have to be in Vegas on August 18th for registration, contingency and tech.
The race is the next day August 19th and runs till Saturday the 20th. Awards ceremony is that night I believe.
We would have to have names of all drivers and co-drivers by July 25th, to be turned in with the entry form on the 27th.

After the awards on Saturday night, big party....

I'll keep you posted. I'd be glad to have you and your bro if he wants, be part of this. You've been involved in off-road comp before right? I may see if you want to drive a section. I'll actually need 2 drivers besides myself, but may have another already setup. I'll need some co-dawgs/nav guys (3). There are 15 pits, of which we will utilize 5 for fuel (the others will be repair or emergency pits), which means probably can be pit crewed with 1 or 2 vehicles carrying fuel/tires/spare parts and tools. One crew would be utillized as a primary pit crew and the other would be a "chase/flying crew" that would respond as needed to relay parts or assistance.

The main pit crew would use my Duramax, so that takes care of one vehicle. So we'll need someone that has a vehicle that can run back and forth, carrying parts to other pits. Chase crews won't be allowed on the course, so parts will have to be taken to the pit before and given to another racer to carry thru to the car.

It should be fun, we'll have enough time after the race to have a good party/bbq and get-together for ProwlerNation...

Seth, do you have any flags or signs that could be used at contingency. If we can come up with decals, we can run as "Team Prowler Nation" Or Team ProwlerTalk.Net.
The car number for BITD is 1921.

Sometimes that is what it takes to win, but this race is more a race of logistics. Getting spare parts to the car when it breaks is extremely important. Sometimes, having your fastest drivers on the hiway, hauling parts, is what wins the race. A couple years ago or so, Bipolar Racing lost first place by like 15 minutes I think it was, because they were broken down (fuel system problems). I don't know if parts would've helped them, but maybe.
Troy, are you out there, you have experience running chase for BP Racing on this course.
The car is running an oversize CBR Radiator/Oil Cooler with a Spal fan, so it should keep the engine cool enough. The fuel system is plumbed to minimize vapor locks or any delivery problem hopefully. So as long as we don't have internal engine problems, diff or axle problems, we should be good. The belt is an EPI Severe Duty Kevlar Belt. The cooling for the belt drive system is pressurized via hood scoop.
The course has lots of high speed fireroads and isn't near as rough as some other courses. So breakage shouldn't be as bad....

Todd, are you going to be available during this timeframe? I can probably get another pilot (private jet and stunt), to ride with you...LOL. That way you feel at home...

Seth, you care to get on board?

Remember, we have to make a good showing with Arctic Cat, everyone will be watching this car and race to see what happens. Side betting is pitting us against Jagged X's super built RZR-XP900 (and it's damn fast), Parks Racing RZR (converted 4 that won the SS300) and Mike Lasher's built to the hilt Teryx. Can Am has a couple entries also.... Hey, we are even racing against 2 John Deere Gator XUVs.

Guys, we've got a good chance, lets go kick some butt....

Darryl ill see if Clayton will let me borrow one of his Race Radios for a chase truck . i have a race suit , plenty of tools and one hell of a camp cook !

What would that be... I'm afraid to ask...

Oh, and the other pilot, is married to a hot, hot movie star... I'm sure most of you have seen her films...and no, not quite B films or pornos... LOL

Glad to have Matt aboard as a driver. I think his technical rock driving skills will pay off on the 2nd or 3rd leg of the race.

I haven't worked on whether we want hotel rooms or 5th wheels. The race is going to start in or near Beatty, NV. Staging is at 5:15am. Our group leaves the line about 6am.... Vegas is where the reg/tech/contingency will be on Thursday. The awards will be Saturday evening in Reno, NV. Barring any problems, we should cross the finish line early-early Saturday morning (in between 9pm Friday and 2am Saturday). Cutoff time is 6am Saturday. So that gives us all day Saturday to rest, nap and BBQ for Prowler Nation... Anyone that couldn't make the race, sure would be welcome to show up Saturday for a BBQ...Maybe get a group photo for one of the mags...
GO TEAM PROWLER NATION!!!!

Well, it looks like it's going to be Matt and I handling the driving duties. Still need a couple of brave souls that want to do navigating duties and a few others for pit detail. Really not much work to do on pit duty other than to get to the next pit area and set up a tarp, pull out fuel cans and be ready to fuel up and perhaps any other minor details that need done. Matt and I will be driving the chase/pit truck when not driving the race car. The race starts at 6am, is about 554 miles in length and has up to 16 pits, but we foresee only needing 4 or 5 of them. The pits are very close to the highway. We'll have radio contact between the race car and pit crew, so we'll be able to let the crew know if plans change. It would be great to have someone with a camera recording the action, pit work, start line (starts at Beatty, NV) and finish line (finishes at Dayton NV, south of Carson City).
We expect the race to be over about 8:30 or 9pm that same day. Then the next morning, we'll load up and drive to Reno for the awards and party.
We'll probably have a ProwlerTalk BBQ in the afternoon, then the awards party and after party.
I'm taking my 5th wheel, I have room for a few guys to sleep in there (we'll drive to Beatty after contingency and tech on Thursday, camp near the start line so we don't have to drive there from Vegas that morning 100miles).

Yes I do Troy, I need another co-dawg/navigator. We have 2 drivers right now, so the co's might end up doing some driving. Also need a couple chase/pit guys. We're poorboying it, mainly looking to have some fun and finish the race first time out with this car.
You interested? With your experience running chase and pit, you would be extremely welcome. What would you most like to do on the team?

#26 ·
hows the team shapin up Dman? fill us in!
Still needing a few more.
Matt Hunt (Soaz Cat) will be sharing driving duties with me, Ryan Drake from northern Cali will co-dawg/navigate with me. Need another co-dawg/navigator and 2 or 3 people to help with pit/chase duties. Matt's brother, Clayton may come back from overseas and help out, either driving 3rd leg or being Pit Chief.
Note, pit crew fuel handlers (while fueling) and driver/navigators have to wear 1 piece fire suits and helmets. So they will need to consider that. Drivers/ navigators need to be members of BITD ($50 fee) also. But that fee is good till December 31st.

IF, bit if, we place or win, we stand to receive a monetary prize, that will be split, after payback of base entry fee, among everyone else besides myself.

We'll be able to do this with one chase/pit truck for the most part. The pits are right next to the highway and the way the course weaves back and forth, the pit crew should have plenty of time to get from pit to pit ahead of the car. We'll use my DMax to chase and haul pit gear, only drawback is, it'll be pulling my 5th wheel and a 2nd trailer (for the car). Matt will drive the truck while I'm in the car, then we'll switch at either Coaldale, RM 281, or RM 307 (Redlich) and depending on how he's doing at Top Gun (South of Fallon), we'll switch back. The reason I'm doing it this way is, from Redlich to Top Gun is up through some mountainous terrain, it'll be afternoon and warm, so he'll be fresh for that leg. Then I imagine he'll be pretty worn by Top Gun and ready to switch back out. Matt is also a KOH hand, so he understands technical driving, which is what Redlich to Top Gun will be.
But like I said, we still need some folks that don't mind pouring a little fuel and helping wrench if something goes wrong. I have room for a few guys in my 5th wheel, so they can sleep there it they like. I may get a room at Reno though, but anyone that wants to stay in the camper can.
Tech and Contingincy is Thursday, August 18th, that evening we will drive to Beatty and camp for the night. We have to be on the start line around 5:30am, leave the line about 6am.
If all goes well, we will arrive in Dayton NV, about 8 to 10pm. We'll camp there and the next day drive on up to Reno. Depending on who is there, we may have a BBQ or find a place to celebrate a bit. Then that evening is the awards ceremony.
Anyone else want to join in, have fun.... We won't ever get rich racing, but who knows, you might end up in a magazine article, or driving your own car one day, or even on tv (ABC will broadcast this race).

The timing on this whole race sucks. I am stuck in South Korea and scheduled right now to return August 19th. I am working on moving that date around a bit. I have a chase truck race radios/GPS setup, head sets, all the race gear (suit, pumper and wired helmet) Hanns device. Everything. If you really need it I could probably have my buddy get it out of my trailer and get it shipped out for you and my brother.

I cant wait to get home and get my Rotax motor in my Rhino. It is driving me nuts being over here during my entire summer.

If I can't make it out there I just want to say good luck, have fun and be safe.

Thanks Clayton, I may take you up on that, but would much rather have you here in person to throw in your experience and skills.
Keep us posted, there will always be a spot for you on the team. And if you need help on your car when you get back, I'll do what I can in return for you. Thanks again.

Matt,
Send me your email address to
racerextreme@hotmail.com
so I can send you a Google Earth Map File. They haven't released the V2R route yet, but it'll most likely be similar to last years course. I have last year's course plotted out with pits, fuel points and driver switches.

Thanks Matt, I hope to put a few miles on it right after the 4th of July holiday.
Thought you might want to see your office space for August...

I'll keep you posted on it. Thanks for the info on the radios, I have a guy that has electronics left over from when he was racing and might be able to make me a killer deal, if not, I'm looking at the RP350-2 and Vertex Radio package... good pricing at $900 or so...

Darryl,

Just wanted to give you a heads up on help. I will not be able to be direct help for you during the V2R. I had already commited to help a friend but was waiting to see if he was for sure racing. I do want to try to hook up and meet all of you at tech. I do want to help in the future. Darryl, once you find out your freq on the race radios let me know and I will monitor to see how you all are doing and if you need help and we are in the area we would be glad to assist. My buddy is running a jeep speed and they start close to the rear of the field so hopefully all goes as planned and I dont see you race day until we are all drinkin a cold one. Again if you need anything before or during the race let me know. Troy 714-812-5782

Thanks Troy, we'll catch up at tech. If we can help your team, let us know.

We have our in-car teams now. I'll drive first leg with Rindy Zamboni as my navigator. Matt Hunt will drive 2nd leg with Ryan Drake as his navigator. When the car gets to Top Gun (south of Fallon), we may switch again, depending on how worn Matt and Ryan are. Heat, dust and technical driving may wear the guys out pretty bad when you consider, they'll be in the car, non-stop for 5 to 6 hours.
We have 4 fuel stops lined up, and several radio or quick checks. Lots of high speed fire-roads. We'll run a steady and conservative race, finishing will be the main goal. Drive the course at a pre-run speed and you'll be surprised how effective that can be. Attrition due to breakage is the main reason cars lose this race.

Dan Dubose, former owner of Blue Torch Fabworks has said he would like to run chase with us. If any of you need graphics work he's doing that now, but thinks one day he may be swing hammers again. His monikers are, he likes to build stuff and tear up stuff....so he will fit right in.

Rindy Z is from Sparks, NV. She's been involved with motocross in that area, twists a pretty mean throttle herself and knows how to read terrain.

Ryan is a VORRA racer by hobby, firefighter by trade. He's working his way up in racing and will be a good addition to the team.

Matt, another race just was announced in NM. On August 6th, is the New Mexico 200 Desert Race, in Rio Rancho, NM (just outside of Albuquerque). I'm going to run that race to prep for the V2R. You might consider coming over to that race to get a feel of the car and see if you think there is anything we need to change at the last minute. There won't be alot of stiff comp in the UTV Pro class, but enough we can run the car out good. Our class starts in the afternoon and finishes in the dark.
