....where is the crack located on the filler neck , below the threads or in the threads? In the 70's I had a gas tank leaking on my Chevelle near the bottom. Had always heard regular bar soap rubbed into leak would fix it. I tried with gasoline leaking from it and it stopped immediately. Unfortunately, sold it about 8 yrs later, still did not leak. Maybe that would work.

I tried JB wield and everything else I could find on my quad neck that broke. Nothing worked so I finally found a used tank to swap out. Now I don't let anyone else put the cap back on except me. It broke because someone over tightened it.

Where the filler attaches the tank
...after my experience with the Chevy, if it was mine, I would rub the bar soap into the leak. If it doesn't work, wash it off. On my tank, if it was leaking where yours is, the filler cap wouldn't put any pressure on it other than your final tightening of the cap.
I reread your earlier comment and you stated that it was cracked by over tightening. Wonder if a guy could put like two 90 degree brackets on each side of the filler neck and then attach to the tank itself to limit any motion or stress at the site. Then rub the soap into the leaky areas. Good luck Joe!

You gonna try the soap? Worked on my Chevelle steel tank. Is the filler neck loose from the crack?

Joe how much is a new tank.
$225 plus shipping for a tank. This is just for the tank, cap, and fuel level sensor mounting plate.
