My puma won’t start without full throttle. Will only stay running with full throttle on. Won’t idle, plugs are soaked. And it smokes like crazy.

Not sure if this matters but with or without choke affects nothing.

Tried new plugs
Cleaned carb
Checked exhaust for plugs by mice
Adjusted air scr

Had the same issue for last couple of weeks. Found the electrical issue with throttle lever making contact with housing on handlebar. Go figure. Pulled plugs to check for spark and found intermittent to no spark when this contact was made. Put in a folded piece of paper to give space and engine started turning over. Added more throttle to starting and engine fired up.

Need new throttle cable and will have to go through process of setting up oil/fuel and idle afterwards. Picked this up last winter but did not have a chance to go over it last summer (work in progress 1991 Cougar L/C 440).

Because of the lack of spark, this added to the build up amount of unburned oil/fuel into exhaust and the smoke show I provided to the neighborhood each time I was working on troubleshooting.
